Online payment giant Paypal recently announced that it has signed deals with 15 major Retailers to allow customers to pay for purchases using their mobile phones.  Atlanta based Home Depot earlier this year began accepting Mobile Payments via Paypal in about 2,000 of it’s stores.  Now in addition such retailers such as Office Depot, Barnes & Noble, J.C. Penney, Abercrombie & Fitch, Toys R Us…just to name a few, will begin using the Mobile Payment system.  Definitely a plus for consumers in giving them a choice and convenience in making payments in this new Digital Age.

In addition to the major retailers, Paypal also has announced that over 300,000 Small Businesses have signed up for their Paypal Here services which allows Merchants to accept credit card payments via their Smartphones.  This service directly competes with the startup service Square which has offered a similar service at low rates.  Personally, I would like to see Paypal be able to offer  Mobile Payments to Small Businesses as well in order to give similar conveniences to consumers with Small Businesses as they have with the large retailers.  Another service called LevelUp has been making leeway with offering Mobile Payments to Small Businesses.

256px Chrome Logo.svg Report: Google Chrome The Worlds Most Popular Web Browser

I’ve seen several articles this morning about Google Chrome taking over the #1 spot as most popular Web Browser.  I personally use Google Chrome as my primary web browsing tool on my Macbook Pro.  Also, I do use Safari and Firefox as secondary browsers occasionally, Google Chrome won me over with the least crashes, memory issues, and web site compatibility problems.

And as an avid Google+ User, it is an excellent tool for managing that Social Media platform.

A new report suggests even further how Small Businesses should be utilizing the new Social Media Platform Pinterest for Social Media Marketing. As the report states, typically Small Business owners thinks of Facebook, Twitter, and possibly Linked In as the top sites to utilize for their Brand.

However, with the Visual impact of Pinterest and it’s growth trend in the past year, Small Businesses should not be passing it up. But at the same time, make sure not to ignore the other Social Media networks as well.

150x102 Geek App Review SocialSafe

(Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)

I recently tried out an App for my Mac called SocialSafe.  SocialSafe is a tool that claims to back up your Social Media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram just to name a few.  But it also allows you to export your data to your computer.  Social Safe offers a free version which will allow you to backup some Facebook Features.

So after trying the free version, I was so impressed that I upgraded to the Pro Version which allows you to backup up to 4 of your Networks for $6.99 a year.  I then realized that this is a very valuable tool!  So I then upgraded to the Enterprise version which allows you to backup up to 10 Network accounts, plus you have the ability to backup your Facebook Pages as well.  No brainer for $13.99 a year.

Have you tried Google Drive yet?  If you’re an early adopter (aka Geek) like me, most likely you have! lol

If not, here’s my two Geek Cents worth….

“What is Google Drive?” you ask…

Google Drive is a cloud service that allows you to store your documents, then access them from your PC, Mac, Tablet, and Smartphone.  There are currently apps available for Windows, Android, and Mac OS.  iOS Apps are stated to be coming soon.

It is very simple to setup and if you already use Google Docs, it automatically moves your Documents to your Google Drive.  You can then setup new folders, create new files, and share/collaborate with others.  Note: You have the option to either keep the files private or share them with individuals (single or multiple).  You files will remain secure if you don’t share them or remain secure between your group.  It also interfaces well with other Google Apps such as GMail and Google+.

Another awesome feature of Google Drive reminds me of Apples Time Capsule/Time Machine.  When you save a version of the file on Google Drive, you can access previous versions up to 30 days in the past.

And another amazing feat…the price!  For up to 5 GB, the service is free.  Want more space?  You can upgrade to 25 GB for $2.50 a month and 100 GB for only $5.00 a month!!!

Siri not in Canada yet (Photo credit: AshtonPal)

I’ve been trying to get Siri installed on my iPhone 4 for quite some time now.  Every week there seems to be some new trick published on mainstream iPhone & Jailbreaking Blogs to bypass Apple’s restriction of Siri to the iPhone 4S only platform.  However, each time something failed.  Until today!!!

I was able to activate Siri this morning.  I am very impressed!  I was able to play Music, find a good BBQ Restaurant in Kansas City (I had to try the “What’s the best BBQ Restaurant in Kansas City” from the Apple Commercial…especially with my strong ties to the city.

And what was really impressive, I was able to send Teresa a text message without typing while driving.  While the punctuation wasn’t the best, the voice recognition was excellent.

Have you tried Siri?  If so, what is your favorite feature?
